Personalized Family Old Couple When We Get To The End Of Our Lives Together Poster
for a pair of fire fighters sits on the ground next to a Wabash Township Fire engine, Tuesday, June 22, 2021 in Wabash Township.
EDITOR’S NOTE: The Journal & Courier received the following statements from the three Wabash Township firefighters facing termination at the end of June, after indicted Trustee Jennifer Teising expressed her intent via email to dismiss the paid fire department staff.
Safety being jeopardized
As the first paid firefighter hired nine years ago, I have been blessed by the opportunity to make a difference in Wabash Township on a continuous basis. I thoroughly enjoyed my service to the community and have witnessed the steady increase in the volume of calls that led to the eventual onboarding of three additional full-time firefighters.
I regret that the safety of the township is being jeopardized by what I believe to be a personal vendetta to tear down the Wabash Township Fire Department. There have been no township residents who have shown support for Teising’s decision to destroy nine years of progress. Her unwillingness to be transparent with the fire department and advisory board members is a cause for serious concern for as long as she remains a trustee.
It is a tragedy that multiple votes of “no confidence” have only caused Teising to become more vindictive as this situation has progressed. Her refusal to resign is appalling, as is her blatant disregard for the safety of the community, the advisory board’s recommendations, and the want of her constituents to maintain the fire department.
For the sake of the community, I pray for a swift resolution to this situation that has a positive impact on the safety of Wabash Township, I have very little hope while Teising holds the purse strings.
— Joe Wade, Assistant Chief, Wabash Township Fire Department
