Breast Cancer Messed With The Wrong Chick Shirt, hoodie, tank top
Scott Brunson is a color enthusiast. His surreal works in watercolor are heavily influenced by the vast amounts of color found on a daily basis around his home in Colorado Springs. Brunson’s paintings jump off the canvas and command the viewer’s attention with their dreamy landscapes and vivid colors.
Brunson’s life path has taken him in many directions, from draftsman to drummer to machinist to mason and, recently, to a full-fledged artist. Brunson’s love for architectural drafting in high school seems to have guided him down this path, as he has always had a fondness for line and design.
Brunson first picked up a paintbrush in 2008 and quickly discovered his niche as an artist. His enthusiasm for life and his love of nature shine brightly in his vibrant works. Brunson has mastered two important qualities in the art world, conquering the tricky medium of watercolor and creating paintings in a traditional medium that are entirely different. His works frequently feature surreal skies contrasting with intricate details, including anything from cascading waterfalls, to grizzly bears to petroglyphs, and more. Brunson’s aim is to, “create powerful statements on the sacred beauty of a world that is quickly disappearing.” Through their surreal nature and Brunson’s marvelous use of color, his works have the ability to take their viewers to another time and place, in which they are completely immersed in the landscape he has created.
Brunson strives to allow the pigments in his paints and the water they are mixed with to find a balance between random reactions and a controlled awareness. As he begins a painting, he is never quite sure what the results might be. Brunson says, “Just as crystal or stone forms in the earth, and trees and vegetation grow, the elements in my paintings do the same, only at a faster rate.” As a result, Brunson’s works in watercolor have a very organic feeling, reflecting the marvels of earth, sky and water.
“The spontaneous nature of watercolor and the intensity and fluidity of the color reflect the way things happen in nature,” he said.
Brunson will be showing his newest work and demonstrating his style this weekend in the Art on a Whim gallery in downtown Breckenridge. Brunson is in town to participate in the increasingly popular Breckenridge Second Saturday Gallery Walk.
